China controls the rare earths the world buys - can Trump's new deals change that? US President Donald Trump has signed a flurry of deals on his Asia visit to secure the supply of rare earths, a critical sector that China has long dominated. The deals with Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia differ in size and substance and it's too early to assess their tangible impact. But they all include efforts to diversify access to the minerals that have become essential for advanced manufacturing, from electric vehicles to smartphones. The agreements, which aim to lock partners into trading with the US, are a clear bid to reduce dependence on China, ahead of a key meeting with its leader Xi Jinping. They could eventually challenge Beijing's stranglehold over rare earths, but experts say it will be a costly process that will take years. "Building new mines, refining facilities, and processing plants in regions such as Australia, the United States, and Europe comes ...

Why are mysterious drones being seen around US bases in the UK?

A series of mysterious drone sightings have been reported in the UK's Norfolk and Suffolk counties, particularly in the night sky, around US air bases. The people behind these sightings have not yet been identified. Residents living near the airbases have already raised questions about how these drones are flying and why they are being allowed to happen. It has been reported that these drones have been spotted near three airbases. These are RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk County and RAF Feltwell in the neighbouring Norfolk County. The drones were seen over and around these bases between November 20 and 22. Residents of the Beck Row area near RAF Mildenhall said they had seen very bright aircraft flying over their homes and the airbase.

Cassim Campbell, a resident of Beck Row, said he had seen flying objects over his house. Campbell said the objects were triangular in shape. He saw two such objects one evening last week. One was dark grey. He added that the objects were making a lot of noise as they flew. They were emitting light. His question was, ‘If the flying objects were a threat, why weren’t they shot down? If they were harmful, why were they allowed to fly?’ One of the mysterious drone incidents was as follows—on November 22, the Royal Navy’s flagship aircraft carrier ‘HMS Queen Elizabeth’ was entering Hamburg airbase. At that moment, a drone came within 250 meters of it. Recently, US bombers B-52 have been deployed to RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire. Drones have also been reported there recently. British troops are assisting US efforts to track down the group behind these drone intrusions.

A week ago, a young woman named Crystal Mason (28) also saw two drones flying in the Beck Row area. The relative of an RAF pilot said that she saw an orange spherical object in the sky one night. It was flying over the US air base. Crystal Mason said, “I have seen military vehicles moving around the village (Beck Row area) for the last 10 days. There was also a higher than usual presence of British soldiers and police officers.” Mason believes that the orange spherical object was an intruding drone. However, the BBC could not verify her statement. The mother-of-one said, “I saw a big orange light in the sky. Then it disappeared. I heard people cheering when they saw it.” “I have seen drones three or four times” Another resident of Beck Row, named Jonny Whitfield, also reported drones flying around the US bases. “I’ve seen drones flying three or four times,” Whitfield said. He said he saw them flying last week at night. Whitfield saw the bright flying objects hovering over the air base. He didn’t hear any noise at the time. The objects were quite large. “You all saw the lights. But these were big, very big,” he said. Whitfield believes the US military is covering up the incidents. “We don’t know if these objects are from overseas or local. (The US Air Force) doesn’t give much information about them. You can get more information about them from Facebook than from the base.
