Student protest at Uttara's Milestone School
campus at midnight - what happened?
After an Air Force fighter jet crashed into a building at
Milestone School and College in Uttara, the fire service, police and army
personnel began rescue operations at the scene on Monday afternoon. However, a
few hours later, the army cordoned off the scene and took control. Students and
teachers were evacuated and no one else was allowed to enter.
Later, on Monday night, students of schools staying in
various hostels in the area staged protests and movements demanding entry to
the campus. They accused the authorities of concealing information about the
killed and injured students.
At the same time, they also alleged that the students were
not allowed to enter at noon and that teachers and students were lathicharged
at that time. Most of them are higher secondary examinees and former students.
Why was an ambulance on the school campus at 2 am on Monday,
the protesting students asked.
The advisors have been stranded for more than five hours
till the time of writing this report.
The situation at the scene has been tense since Tuesday
morning.
The police are struggling to control the situation. There
have been chases and counter-chase incidents between the police and the
students.
At least three people have suffered head injuries in this
incident and several others have been injured. Considering security, additional
police have been deployed there in two phases.
However, the question has arisen whether the army can take
control of such a civilian place or not? At the same time, can it prohibit
public entry to the place?
Why did the students protest at night? What happened there?
Security analysts believe that the way the army cordoned off
the crash site on Monday and took control did not cause any disruption. Because
the crashed warplane is military property, the army is also responsible for
securing the crash site.
